How the Galaxy Lens Transformed My Sight

"My local optician suggested that surgery might not yet be necessary, but I wanted to explore all my options and sought my free consultation with Freedom Vision by SpaMedica.

They offered a complimentary evaluation which concluded surgery would provide significant benefits as cataract surgery has a very high success rate. I was fortunate as the timing of the procedure coincided with the introduction of the recently developed Rayner Galaxy lens. These lenses combine both short and long sight vision while significantly reducing halo effects and were successfully trialled in the UK for more than six months prior to my surgery.

I was immediately impressed by the pleasant and professional approach from all the Freedom Vision by SpaMedica people I dealt with at their Southampton location.

I was apprehensive before the surgery as I didn’t feel comfortable with the idea of my eyes being touched. This concern proved unnecessary as you are given a mild sedative and are only really aware of a bright light and background conversation during surgery. I felt only minimal discomfort afterwards and the actual procedure only lasted a few minutes.

I followed the eye drop regime meticulously and also showered wearing swimming goggles to avoid water getting into the treated eye.

Within 24 hours my dominant eye vision had improved and it reached a good level after about 2 weeks. Apart from much clearer images, other benefits included brighter colour vision and a feeling of being more confident during night-time driving. The transitions from long distance to short distance vision and back again was smooth.

Following surgery on the other eye, my overall vision has gradually improved. There were no side effects and I am confident of another excellent result. My near vision improved dramatically after 3 days and distance vision is now close to the level of the other eye after only 4 days. Following a final review 5 weeks after surgery, Matthew, my Optometrist, has confirmed each eye has improved to 20:20 vision, a brilliant result!
