Restore Clearer Vision with Private Cataract Surgery
Freedom Vision offers reliable consultant-led cataract surgery with a wide choice of lenses to suit your needs and lifestyle. The procedure usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes and is carried out with anaesthetic eye drops and is painless for most patients.
Understanding Cataracts and Cataract Surgery
A cataract is when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, which makes vision less sharp and can cause glare, faded colours, or difficulty seeing in dim light. Cataracts often develop gradually and can make everyday tasks like reading, driving, or using a computer more challenging.
Cataract surgery is a routine procedure that restores clearer vision by replacing the cloudy lens with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). The operation usually takes 15 to 20 minutes, is carried out with anaesthetic eye drops, and is painless for most patients.
Most people go home the same day and begin to notice improvement within days. Modern cataract surgery is highly successful, and choosing to have the operation earlier can make recovery easier and help you return to daily activities with greater comfort and confidence.

Is Cataract Surgery Right for Me?
Cataract surgery could be the right choice if you are finding it harder to do everyday activities because of cloudy or blurred vision, glare from lights, or colours looking faded.
You might benefit from cataract surgery if:
- Your vision problems are affecting driving, reading, or work.
- You have been diagnosed with cataracts by an eye specialist.
- You want a clearer, more comfortable view for daily life.
Your consultant will examine your eyes and discuss the best lens option for your needs and lifestyle.

The Benefits of Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery can:
- Restore clearer vision by replacing a cloudy lens.
- Reduce glare and halos from lights, making night driving easier.
- Improve your ability to read, use screens, and see detail.
- Enhance colour perception so colours appear brighter and more vivid.
Most people notice an improvement in their sight within days. Choosing the right lens can also reduce your need for glasses.

All you need to know about Cataract Surgery
What is cataract surgery?
Cataract surgery is a reliable and routine procedure that removes the cloudy natural lens of your eye and replaces it with a clear artificial lens, restoring clearer vision.
How long does cataract surgery take?
The procedure usually takes around 15–20 minutes and is performed under anaesthetic eye drops.
Will I need glasses after cataract surgery?
This depends on the type of lens chosen. Some lenses reduce or eliminate the need for glasses for distance or reading, while others may still require glasses for certain tasks.
How long is recovery?
It typically takes around 4-6 weeks to make a complete recovery from cataract surgery.
On the day of your surgery, you can expect your appointment to last for around 2-3 hours. Cataract surgery itself is a straightforward procedure that only takes around ten minutes to complete, but you’ll spend some time before your operation waiting for your eye to dilate and your anaesthetic eye drops to take effect. You’ll also see the nurse after your surgery, who will let you know how to take care of your eye when you go home.
You’ll be provided with a plastic eye-shield, which should be worn overnight and can be removed the morning after your surgery. You can expect the anaesthetic eye drops to wear off within a few hours, but it may take a few days for your vision to fully return.
For the first few days after cataract surgery, it’s normal to have blurred vision, double vision, watery and/or gritty eyes, or red or bloodshot eyes. These side effects will normally go away within a few days, but it can take 4-6 weeks for your eye to completely heal and for you to make a full recovery.
Can I have cataract surgery in both eyes at the same time?
It’s usually recommended to treat one eye at a time to ensure optimal healing and safety. Your surgeon will advise on the best schedule for your treatment.
